HIKE OUT - DON'T STAY IN
article of 05.04.2025
SPEED HIKING
The relative of hill running is “speed hiking” or “fast hiking.” It’s all about moving at a brisk pace, preferably in hilly terrain. The goal is to cover as much distance as possible in a short time. To try it out, plan at least half a day with good stamina.
SOFT HIKING
As you might guess, soft hiking is the exact opposite of speed hiking and also the proper good companion to mindfulness. Are you aware of nature and
yourself in it? The route doesn't have to be strenuous and high speeds are strictly discouraged. It’s the ideal lifestyle if you want to be active outdoors without any performance pressure.
CRITTER HIKING
Animals are booming. Especially in Austria and southern Germany, the list of four-legged companions is on the rise and becoming evermore exotic: goats, horses, donkeys, cows, llamas, alpacas – even camels. Hands down, alpacas win the combined award for the fluff-and spit competition.
HIKING WITH A KICK
How about a stimulating tour and enjoying fine beverages along the way, even learning something while you're at it? Wine and beer hikes are gaining popularity especially among friends and colleagues … hmmm, wonder why? Just combine exercise in beautiful scenery with delectable treats and there’s your answer.
BIRTHDAY SUIT HIKING
If you want to connect with nature – not just a little bit, but really feel the breeze – then head out with nothing but your backpack and boots. In Switzerland, folks are not amused with this trend. But in Germany and Austria, (naturally) we are starting to see specially-marked trails for those who want fresh air on their derriere.
CREATE YOUR OWN TREND
GLAM HIKING
Can’t you look more stylish when you're out in nature? We say yes! An easy, glamorous hike is perfectly acceptable. Think a stylish jacket with a Burg picnic and either Champagne or sparkling tea in your pack. And then say “Tschüss” to the speed hikers as they race by.
DISCO HIKING
Should the sound of silence be the only thing your ears hear outside … and why do we always sit down for breaks? Wouldn’t music and dancing be more fun? If this sounds like you, pack headphones and maybe together we can revive the silent disco-trail trend!
