SMALL AND ARTISTIC
article of 27.02.2024
It is on the way from the Burg to the Kriegeralpe. In winter, you can only see it at second glance because of all the snow. In summer, it looks a bit like a futuristic Hobbit cave from the outside. All year round: it's exciting when you enter the Skyspace.
Let's start at the beginning
But let's start at the beginning: If you don't want to walk a huge circuit, but would like to experience an exciting work of art in the great outdoors, we recommend you step out of the Burg front door and head uphill to the right. Simply follow the signs towards Kriegeralpe.
20 minutes to the wow
After around 20 minutes, you will reach the Skyspace - the light sculpture by American artist James Turrell. You can get inside through a 15 metre long tunnel. And then? At an altitude of 1,780 metres, it's all about light, colours, nature, space and its limits. For all those who want to get involved, that is.
Honey schnapps or not, that is the question here
If you simply want to walk back to your room after the art experience, it's best to take the same route back. If you still have energy left, you can continue along the hiking trail and hike over the gypsum holes to the Kriegeralpe. There you can enjoy homemade schnapps and ham before taking the mountain railway back to the Burg.
